Alan Williams is out as the Chicago Bears' defensive coordinator.
"Alan Williams submitted his resignation as the team's defensive coordinator this afternoon," the Bears said in a statement released Wednesday.
USA TODAY Sports obtained Williams' resignation letter.
"It is with great regret that I tender my resignation as the defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears club effective immediately," the statement read. "I am taking a step back to take care of my health and my family."
Williams, 53, has been away from the Bears since last week.

A spokesperson for the Bears refuted social media rumors that authorities raided Halas Hall and said police have not visited the team in connection with Williams.
The Bears currently have the 29th-ranked defense in the NFL and have allowed the second most points per game through Week 2.
Williams was hired as the Bears' defensive coordinator in 2022. Prior to joining the Bears, Williams served as a defensive backs coach for the Indianapolis Colts (2018-2021) and Detroit Lions (2014-2017). He also had a stint as the Minnesota Vikings' defensive coordinator (2012-2013).
